Effective from April 2011, all UK company tax returns must be filed online to HMRC in iXBRL (inline eXtensible Business Reporting Language) format. This makes the documents both human and computer readable. This is done by marking or tagging information in the relevant documents making them able to be read by the HMRC computer systems.
